🕔 30 minutes (quick and easy)
🥘 1 pan or pot
🌿 5 ingredients
🍴 6 servings

6 bacon slices
4 garlic cloves (or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder)
1 small onion (or 1 teaspoon onion powder)
2 pounds green beans
1/2 teaspoon salt

TRIM stems off the green beans, if desired, and set aside. CHOP the bacon slices.

In a large all-purpose pan, COOK bacon over medium heat until brown and crisp. Meanwhile, MINCE the garlic and SLICE the onion (skip this step if using dried seasonings). Set bacon aside and leave 2 tablespoons of bacon oil in the pan.

ADD garlic and onion, and COOK until onion is translucent. STIR in green beans and SEASON with salt. (Alternatively, STIR in green beans and SEASON with garlic powder, onion powder and salt.) COOK for 10 minutes until green beans are tender. Turn heat off, STIR in bacon to combine.

Tools: cutting board and knife or kitchen shears, large all-purpose pan, cooking spoon, egg slicer (if serving boiled eggs)

Tips: If serving rice, don’t forget to cook it—with instant pot, rice cooker or stove top—just before or between cooking the main dish to ensure it’s ready to serve along with your other dishes. For ease and speed, fold 2 bacon slices in half and cut them up with kitchen shears. Use the same plate or bowl the bacon was cut on to transfer the cooked bacon for less dirty dishes, and there’s no need to line the plate or bowl with paper towel. To make this kid friendly, chop or cut the green beans into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
